Tree O'Clock

Little Green Space joined a bid to set a new Guinness world record for planting the most trees in one hour in multiple locations on Saturday December 5th 2009 , from 11am to 12 noon .

Little Green Space backed the BBC Breathing Spaces Tree O’Clock event by planting 59 native broadleaved trees at a site in Hackney, Matlock, as part of its ‘Save the North Pole’ Christmas campaign on climate change.

“Christmas is an important time to act on climate change. Father Christmas’s North Pole home is under serious threat from global warming and Arctic animals such as the polar bear could face extinction,” said Richard Bunting of Little Green Space.

“This December, with the world’s governments meeting at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen , is especially important. Both a strong international agreement and local action are urgently needed.”

Copenhagen Climate Summit - Candlelit Vigil

A candlelit vigil was held in Matlock on Saturday December 11th 2009 as part of a weekend of global action calling for a real climate deal at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen .

The Matlock event, one of over 3000 held in over 130 countries, was attended by local people including members of Transition Matlock, MACAF (Matlock Area Climate Action Forum), Greenpeace, CAFOD and Little Green Space.

“It is absolutely vital that the world’s governments deliver a fair, ambitious and binding treaty on climate change at Copenhagen ,” said event organiser Ingrid Pasteur.
